Thanks to those of you who submitted nominations for the inaugural “Arresting Site or Blog of the Month” award, and I’m pleased to announce the winner for May: Michigan Innovators. I first ran across this terrific online destination last summer, which dovetails perfectly with the spirit of this blog, wherein I look to spotlight Michiganders who display creative zeal. Bud Gibson is doing just that. Along with Diana Wong – who now is in an advisory role – Gibson founded the site in June of 2007, and has compiled an impressive archive of video interviews with business and community leaders across the state, including MicroMax’s Rachel McCormack, the Ann Arbor Film Festival’s Donald Harrison, Metro Parent’s Alyssa Martina, Blight Busters’ John George, and many others. The site offers readers bracing content in numerous categories, including Digital Distribution, Healthcare, and IT Security. Gibson says Michigan Innovators now is a Michigan Nonprofit Corporation with a mission to educate people about innovation in the state, and he tells me they’re “in an exciting period of expansion.” Love hearing such good news. Gibson is its President, and the board of directors also consists of Linda Girard, CEO of Pure Visibility, Rich Sheridan, CEO of Menlo Innovations, and Larry Schmitt, Founding Partner of Inovo. All in all, it’s a vivid snapshot of Michigan’s entrepreneurial spirit, and a splendid resource that makes for a compelling visit, time and again. Kudos to Mr. Gibson and his board, and to the many visionaries whom they have featured.
Note: Nominations for June are due on Monday, May 26, and I’ll announce that month’s winner on Monday, June 2. Please read this press release for more information on the award.
